Process Coffee Roasters

Everything in Process

Like everything we do at Process Coffee Roasters, we recognize the need for humility and growth in approaching all of it. But participating in this industry from a wholistic place is a big deal to us.

We want to create cycles of sustainability for our partner farmers and their communities. We want to empower farmers to try new things without fear of loss. We want to experiment and continue to shrink our carbon footprint. We want to start each day in a better place than the day before.

All in all, these are our hopes and goals, but we recognize that we have a lot to learn, and hope that you will help us in that! We want to be realistic that our sustainability as a company is in process.

About Us

We are brothers in law whose passion for everything coffee started while working as baristas for a local specialty coffee shop. Our desire to gain a more holistic understanding of the coffee industry led us to begin sourcing green coffee from third wave suppliers and roasting, 50 grams at a time, in a little Korean ceramic hand held roaster.

After spending a few years familiarizing ourselves with different roasting strategies and techniques, getting a feel for the many variables involved, and developing our palates and preferences, Joel spontaneously entered a home roaster competition. We didn’t expect this to amount to much, given the fact that we were most likely going up against roasters using much more expensive and technical equipment. However, to our surprise our coffee placed in the top 10.

This pushed us to rethink what until now had been something we had only half-jokingly dreamt about - starting our own coffee roastery. After a drastic, and much needed, equipment upgrade, we began to experiment more and eventually developed roast profiles that we feel represent our personal style while simultaneously bringing out the best in the coffee.

We are always in the process of learning more, and are never afraid to experiment, but we are proud of how far we’ve come and truly believe in the quality of our product. We’re so excited to share our craft with you.

Welcome to the process.

Why Process?

Process, for us, simply means journey. It means celebrating how far we have come, the growth - while acknowledging that there is more work to be done. This is true for us personally, but also for our coffee roasting venture and the coffee industry in general.

Coffee makes the world a smaller place.  Before getting to you - it may be grown in any number of locations. Places like Ethiopia, Kenya, Colombia, Guatemala, Yemen or even China. Then it’s harvested, processed, packaged, shipped, roasted, packaged again, and shipped again.  So many people are involved in the process of making coffee a quality drink that can be accessible in almost all parts of the world.

We want to make that world even smaller by inviting you to discover with us each step in the process, bringing light to each person, and assuring each person involved gets an equitable return for their work. Sadly that is often not the case. We’ve come a long way, but there is more work to be done. There is always more to the process.

Everything and everyone is in process - constantly changing, adapting, and evolving. When it comes to coffee, we are committed to making sure these changes are desirable and profitable for all - not just the ones who stand to benefit most from the changes.
